Hello Gamers,

I want to thank everyone for coming out to the FSLAN party on Dec. 12th. Everybody seemed to have a lot of fun, and we’re looking forward to the next one. I thought we’d post a report on how everything went.

Setup:
We started setting up the network and power the night before, and everything went smoothly. We think we are starting to get the hang of it as this seemed to be the fastest setup by far. FSL would like to thank everyone that helped out.

Registration:
We had 59 gamers register on our site with nearly all prepaid.  There were 52 gamers that came this time around, making it our biggest LAN to date. Having the pizza choices and tourney signups when people register really helped us a lot. We’re thinking about making prepay a must in order to register for the LAN. Doing so would help prevent extra pizza orders for those that don’t show up.

Network:
We had four Cisco 24 port switches which were provided by Golden Living’s network department. Everyone had access to the internet with great speeds. We had no problems with the network the entire time.

Power:
We only had one power related issue due to a misplaced power cord. Besides that everything went well. We kept the limit to four PCs per circuit which works well, though we believe five would be safe.

Sponsors:
Many thanks go out to AMD, Bawls, CPU, Crucial, Men of God, and Health Depot for all their support this time around! It’s nice that everyone got to go home with a little something.

Food and Snacks:
We had the usual free snacks and drinks as well as chili-cheese dip. Everyone got a fresh, hot from the oven, 2-topping pizza. The only complaint was they were a little too small. We will talk to the chef about ordering larger ones next time. Overall, everyone was happy with the pizzas.

Consoles:
Consoles were a lot of fun this time around. Fighting games like Street Fighter 4, Tekken 6, and Soul Calibur 4 got the most attention.  Mark brought his Xbox 360 arcade sticks which everyone seemed to prefer over the normal controllers (check out the pictures on our site).  Guitar Hero was a hit as well.  Aside from being our console tournament, it got a bit of action later in the evening as well.

Servers:
We had a bit more time to get the server configs ready this time around. We plan to zip up the configs and host them on our webpage for others to use. We still have an issue with displaying the server statuses, including the rogue servers. This would help immensely with game participation. HLSW doesn’t work the way we wanted so we hope to have something working for the next mini LAN.

Tournaments:
The tournaments went very smoothly.  The winners are:
Call of Duty 4 1v1:  Layne Holman (Wodahs35)
Call of Juarez 2 FFA:  Mark Smith (Mmmapplesauce)
Guitar Hero 5 1v1:  Jarod Medart (J-rod)
Unreal Tournament 3 InstaGib FFA:  Mark Smith (Mmmapplesauce)

Other thoughts:
From what we have heard, everyone did a good job holding back on the profanity, which is much appreciated! Everything went pretty smoothly and everyone seemed to have a good time.  For the most part, we believe it was a great success. We’re always learning and trying to improve so our next LAN events will be even better. Thanks again to all that came out, and we hope everyone had an awesome time.

No joke!  We may just have to have security stop him at the door from now on.
